"Working primarily in steel, stainless steel and bronze, I employ a certain amount of energy in the way I define my shapes, and that varies as I increase the scale.

With my large seed forms, they open, reach out, and grow quickly. Particularly inspiring are the stem structures … elongated, narrow, delicate, finally overpowered by the seed masses they support.."

I often work on a series of sculptures based on an actual plant form. My most recent series of pieces,
the Unfurlings are inspired by young ferns. My intention is to capture the rhythm of their
metamorphosis with my forms rather than depict them realistically.

"Boyajian's buds and seeds rise well above
the usual dross."

Grace Glueck, The New York Times

Christopher Atamian, of Review Magazine
called Boyajian's Genesis "a quietly poetic series of sculptures; a powerful, sweet exhibition indeed."

David Boyajian's monumental seedlings harden the ephemeral into steel. Young plants gently unfurling
and reaching for the sky transmute into massive
rust colored slabs of metal, able to withstand
the assaults of time."

Ariella Budick
of Newsday
